Counted and in-progress days
An in-progress day can contain food, energy at rest, activity energy, and Apple Health information, but it does not change the journey. A counted day has been reviewed and added to the journey; its receipt shows the food, estimated energy used, and balance recorded at that moment.
Apple Health activity and Manual activities are added together. On a counted day, the values in its receipt stay fixed. Reopen the day before changing Manual activity calories; an activity’s name, duration, and notes can still be edited.
If Apple Health reports a different amount after a day was counted, Calorie Arc shows the newer value without silently rewriting the recorded balance. Reopen the day to recalculate it with the current Apple Health value.
Edit or delete data
Open a day from Journey or History to edit its food and Manual activities before you count it. Saved meals, saved activities, and weight entries can be managed from their own screens. To remove everything Calorie Arc stores locally on the device, use Settings › Delete Local Data and confirm the permanent deletion.
Delete Local Data does not cancel Calorie Arc Pro and does not delete or revoke Apple Health data. Manage Health access separately in iOS Settings or the Health app.
Apple Health troubleshooting
- Apple Health is optional, and Calorie Arc Basic remains fully usable manually.
- Calorie Arc Pro is required for Apple Health import of activity energy.
- Calorie Arc reads activity energy only. It never asks for weight and never writes to Apple Health.
- If access was denied or revoked, review Calorie Arc’s permissions in iOS Settings or the Health app.
- An empty result can mean that no authorized samples exist for the requested dates. Calorie Arc reports this without claiming that permission was denied, because Apple Health returns a revoked read as an empty read.
- Importing happens while the app is open or when you tap Sync Now. It does not update in the background.
- After changing access or data, return to Calorie Arc and tap Sync Now.
Photo analysis
- Photo analysis requires Calorie Arc Pro and a supported physical device with App Attest.
- Keep the whole plate in both photos, use even light, take one photo from above and one from a 30–60° angle, and correct the suggested portion frame before sending.
- Optional dish name, known ingredients, cooking method, oil, or sauce context can improve identification. Add only what you know.
- The camera cannot see exact oil, sugar, filling, recipes, or hidden sauce. Estimates can differ by tens of percent and more for mixed or restaurant dishes.
- The limit is five completed analyses per device per UTC day. A result that is non-food or has insufficient image detail uses an attempt because Claude was called; network and validation failures do not.
Choose one of the three scenarios, then correct its name, weight, and calories before saving. The app keeps the selected result and measurement details, never the photos or the two rejected scenarios.
Yesterday reminder
The optional Yesterday reminder is off until you turn it on in Settings › Yesterday reminder, and that is the only point at which Calorie Arc asks for notification permission. It is a local reminder scheduled by iOS, with no push service involved.
If notifications were denied, the reminder screen offers a direct link to iOS Settings. Counting the day, or removing its food and activity, cancels the reminder.
Purchase and Restore
Calorie Arc Pro is a one-time lifetime purchase, not a subscription.
To buy or restore Pro, open Settings › Calorie Arc Pro and tap Unlock Pro. That screen includes Restore Purchases. Pro-gated features can also open the same screen.
After reinstalling, Calorie Arc normally re-checks the purchase with Apple on launch and no action is needed. Pending purchases may complete later. If Apple’s product or entitlement service is temporarily unavailable, keep using Basic and retry when Apple services are reachable. Reinstall recovery and revocation follow Apple’s verified StoreKit entitlement.
